Family-friendly Agriturismo In Tuscany: Borgo Collelungo

During a busy, stressful week in a busy, stressful month, my friends came to visit and suggested we all take a relaxing weekend away together at an agriturismo somewhere near Florence. J and I enthusiastically jumped at the suggestion and we all began searching for a family-friendly agriturismo within a one hour drive from Florence. Enter Borgo Collelungo* located in Montaione, Italy, the superb option that a friend found.

What is an Agriturismo

Agriturismos are popular holiday resorts that are typically located in a countryside villa that offer beautiful views and relaxation. As a rule of thumb, agriturismos require a car to reach and are typically only open seasonally (closed in the winter). Each agriturismo seems to offer a different focus, from food, to interactions with farm animals, to vineyards with wine tastings, or pool-based family-fun. Borgo Collelungo* was certainly the latter.

Staying at the Borgo Collelungo* in Montaione, Italy

We stayed at the Borgo Collelungo* for two nights, and our whole family (Baby ISO included) was sad to leave on Sunday. I think that three nights would be a better length of stay, especially given the good price, great facilities, wonderful pools, and location just an hour outside of Florence.

Rooms at the Borgo Collelungo

Several room options are available at the Borgo Collelungo*. We stayed in the one-bedroom apartment. Our one-bedroom apartment had an incredibly well-equipped kitchenette, a pull-out couch, bedroom with a large bed, and a bathroom with a shower. Our friends who were traveling with two children stayed in the larger apartment with two bedrooms and a living room. All of the rooms that I saw were spotlessly clean.

Pools and Playground

For a family-friendly getaway, the pools and the playground were absolutely the best part of the Borgo Collelungo* for numerous reasons. The pools and playground were enclosed with a fence that was locked from 6:30 pm until 8 am, making it safe for kids to roam around in the evening or morning. The grounds included two pools: a wading pool that came up to my nearly 4-year-old son’s waist (and my knees) and a 25 m pool with shallow and deep ends. The pool area had ample chairs with umbrellas as well as a pergola if you prefer full-shade. The playground was situated adjacent to the wading pool, making it easy to watch your kids play while lounging in the pool or on a lounge chair. The owners even included a gaggle of small rubber ducks for the kids to play with.
