Things We Loved in Frankfurt

Friday, December 18, 2015

Frankfurt, Germany. What a cool city! Though we didn't see a ton of the city (I'd love to go back to see more), we were able to check out some awesome shops, cafes, and restaurants. This trip we ended up not eating out at restaurants very frequently, but did find a ton of great casual places to go for meals, coffee, and takeaway. I also found the most decadent chocolate shop ever! Holy cow, it was like chocolate heaven.

Tia Emma A cool cafe and off-beat trinket shop. I loved the art prints and the espresso macchiato. Alte G. 4, 60313 Frankfurt am Main website

Cafe Sugar Mama An awesome recommendation that I found on ReloKate. They had amazing cookies, great sandwiches, and a really delicious HUGE salad. This is probably one of my favorite places that we visited. The women working there were also so nice and kept making Baby ISO smile. Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 2 website

The Espresso BAR Smooth espressos and tasty cappuccinos to be enjoyed at outdoor benches. This was located just around the corner from our hotel. Schafergasse 42-44 website

Rama V On our first night in Frankfurt we opted to pick up takeout, so we could get the sleepy Baby ISO to bed on time. J popped down the block from our hotel and ordered delicious Thai food from Rama V. It was a deliciously spicy way to end a day of travel. Vilbeler Strabe 32 website

Wohnen and Spielen This is such a whimsical toy shop! Wohen and Spielen sold beautiful wooden German-made toys. We couldn't resist picking something out for Baby ISO.  Große Friedberger Str. 32 website

Bitter and Zart This store is chocolate heaven! When we initially walked past Bitter and Zart the shop was not yet open, but I'm so glad that we made a point to pass by again later the same day. The shop was completely full of chocolate in every form: walls of chocolate bars, a counter display of chocolates and macarons, baskets of bonbons, and even advent calendars. Seriously, YUM. I purchased these two macarons based on their prettiness (yes, that is a valid way to choose sweets) and they tasted as good as they looked! In fact, they were the best macarons I've ever eaten (better than Paris by far). Braubachstraße 14 website

Kleinmarkthalle This indoor market was our lunch stop on our last day in Frankfurt. Located in the midst of the crowded Christmas markets, we stopped inside to see how this market compared to other indoor markets that we've loved (e.g., the North Market in Columbus, Ohio; the Milwaukee Public Market in Milwaukee, WI; Torvehallerne in Copenhagen).  Kleinmarkthalle was great! We enjoyed delicious chili and apple wine at one of the stalls, and huge hot dogs at a wildly popular stall run by two old women.  Hasengasse 5-7 website

The Pastries This isn't in reference to any particular place, but rather the sheer amount of delicious pastries available. Mouthwatering baked goods were everywhere!

Kauf Dich Glücklich I loved the clothes, accessories, and trinkets in this shop. This would be a great stop for anyone looking to purchase a fashionable, wearable item from Frankfurt.  Große Eschenheimer Straße 39/39a website

  1. I'm embarrassed to say that having lived in Heidelberg for 2 years, I only made it up to Frankfurt once! And it is only a 30-40 minute train ride away! Now you're making me regret that decision : ) Definitely bookmarking this for future visits to Germany :)
