A Tour of the Baltic Capitals

Friday, May 1, 2015

Today's post has been in the works for quite some time now, and I'm excited to be sharing it on the first day of the #ReasonsontoTravel linkup!

After almost two years living in Vilnius, Lithuania, I've finally had the chance to visit the capitals of each Baltic Country (now I just need to visit more of each country!). Vilnius, Lithuania - my expat home- has little pockets of creativity that I love finding during my local 'in search ofs.' I visited Riga, Latvia on a blisteringly cold December weekend to experience their Christmas Market and enjoy the city where the decorating of Christmas trees supposedly began. Most recently, I visited Tallinn, Estonia where I marveled in their Medieval Old Town and treated myself to a most delicious meal.

In addition to beautiful capital cities, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have numerous other sites to offer tourists, yet I rarely hear of people having the Baltic Countries on their 'travel list.' Let me convince you (through photos) to add the Baltics to your list. I'm pretty sure it won't be so hard :) ...

Vilnius, LT

Riga, Latvia

Tallinn, Estonia

Now that you're ready to hop on the next flight to the Baltics, let me arm you with this handy guide. If you have any questions in your travel preparation for Lithuania feel free to shoot me an email or contact me via social media!

  1. The Baltics have been on my list for several years now but somehow I never get there. There are very poor (and expensive) links from Nice where I live which means every time we go somewhere, it's not there! But your lovely photos have inspired me to make more of an effort. Linking up with your new linky (and now following on all medias)

    1. Yes, unfortunately there are poor links to many European cities from the Baltics, though the flights and destinations do seem to be expanding - especially with Air Baltic. You can fly from Paris to Vilnius direct with a very easy Ryan Air Flight at least!

If you make it to this area let me know! Thank you for linking up!

  2. You are right - the photos are convincing! And such a contrast to North American cities - I love the history that oozes from the buildings.

  8. Great job guys. The photos and descriptions of the cities you have posted is really great. Actually, I am from Lithuania (Vilnius) and I can admit that Vilnius is a really beautiful city that has a lot of things to offer. Beautiful architecture, many different restaurants, museums and etc. However, I am also into traveling so from all the Baltic countries I mostly like Tallinn. So, I just bought airline tickets to Tallinn. I hope I will be able to write a blog or something, in order to describe that beauty :)

    1. Thanks a lot for stopping by and commenting and hello to another blogger from Vilnius! I currently live in Vilnius, too and I really enjoy it. I think travel to all of the Baltics is wonderful and way under-rated.
