the interior of the cat cafe in Vilnius, Lithuania

Sometimes, living in Lithuania can be a challenge, so I wanted to focus on forgetting about the challenges and enjoying the positives. I've decided to start a monthly post (the second Friday of each month) on the more creative side of Lithuania. In previous posts I've written about Uzupis, which is truly a creative mecca. For this series I wanted to focus on creative events, unique aspects of the culture or language, and cool places that I find around Lithuania. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!

If you would like to participate in sharing creative things about where you live, tag your photos on Instagram or tweets on Twitter with #CreativeLithuania, #CreativeHomeTown, or #CreativeLocale. I'd love to see the creative side of every country!

Okay, so I know that Cat Cafes are nothing new, but I had never visited a Cat Cafe before this one opened in Vilnius. The reason this particular Cat Cafe merits a spot in my #CreativeLithuania series is because people visiting the Cat Cafe interact with each other! One of the hardest things about living in Vilnius is that in general, people are very closed and not interested in talking to people that they don't know. Because I only work part-time I spend a lot of days in silence, but upon walking into the Cat Cafe it's like you step into a vortex of fun. Complete strangers talk to each other, people laugh aloud (this almost never occurs), and people smile. Wow.

The Cat Cafe in Vilnius (Pylimo g. 38) is pretty much a cat's heaven. It has a climbing wall, fabulous under the seat cat beds, a couches everywhere. Cats pretty much have run of the place and we just get to visit. All of the cats at the Cat Cafe have awesome cafe related names, like Cappuccino, Coffee, and Latte. The Cat Cafe also sells toys for cats and you can donate to help animals in need.

  1. So cute! Would love to cuddle with them! We had a cat cafe in Estonia too, but they had many problems and cats ended up being stressed and even sick, so now we just have a cafe without cats, which is sad. Nice to see that the idea works so well in Vilnius!

    1. The cat cafe in Vilnius is pretty new, so it is possible that the same thing will happen here - but I certainly hope not!

I've been really wanting to visit Tallinn. Is there anything that you'd suggest I do in Tallinn that really represents the creative side of Estonia?

    1. The last time I was there I bought one for my cat - hopefully he isn't to fat for it! The beds are also made in Lithuania, which I think is great.

  4. Yes!! A cat cafe sounds amazing! In Prague, they let dogs in nearly everywhere; I like animals in cafes :) Good for you for focusing on the fun stuff to minimize how the difficult stuff affects you.

    1. When visiting Prague I noticed that dogs were in almost every place we went - and they were well behaved. I like animal cafes as well :)

  5. I think we need to pop over to Lithuania... I'm a crazy cat lady anyway, but if it has a cat cafe I'm there! Isn't it cool how animals can change people? The London cat cafe is pretty cool as well but this looks cozy.
