Creative Lithuania Series - Open Kitchen

Friday, October 10, 2014

Sometimes, living in Lithuania can be a challenge, so I wanted to focus this year on forgetting about the challenges and enjoying the positives. I've decided to start a monthly post (the second Friday of each month) on the more creative side of Lithuania. In previous posts I've written about Uzupis, which is truly a creative mecca. For this series I wanted to focus on creative events, unique aspects of the culture or language, and cool places that I find around Lithuania. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!

If you would like to participate in sharing creative things about where you live, tag your photos on Instagram or tweets on Twitter with #CreativeLithuania or #CreativeHomeTown. I'd love to see the creative side of every country!

Open Kitchen, a collection of pop-up restaurant stalls outside in Vilnius, LT.

First up in the Creative Lithuania Series is Open Kitchen. Open Kitchen is a collection of pop-up restaurants that occurs ever Friday during the warmer months. It takes place at the Organic Farmers Market Stalls (see on map) on the corner of Maironio g. and Aukstaiciu g.

I've been loving spending Friday evenings outside listening to music, people watching, and eating delicious foods from restaurants and bakeries all over Vilnius. The restaurants change weekly and you can find list of the vendors each week on the Open Kitchen Facebook page. What could be better than dinner outside? Free entertainment and a view! Open Kitchen often has a DJ and it is the perfect spot to watch hot air balloons take off for evening tours.

  1. This sounds like a wonderful series - it can be so easy to be bogged down in the day-to-day detail!

  3. What a great idea for a series! Love the idea of looking for creativity instead of difficulties - something I should remember as well.
Also, my mouth totally watered when I saw those tacos. Too early for lunch at 9.00?

    1. It is never to early for lunch! Those were the first really good tacos we found in Vilnius! If you want to share fun/creative things about where you live, try the different hash tags! I would love to learn creative things about everywhere!

    1. I'm always so glad to hear that you had a nice time visiting Vilnius. Living here is a very different experience than traveling here, so I hope that I can keep up the positive vibes.
